Teaching Artist

Integral to my work as a theatre artist are a dedication to curiosity and life-long learning. As a director, I constantly challenge myself and my company by asking questions and exploring them as a team. It is natural that this has led me to find immense joy in teaching. Here is a brief overview of some of my experience.

Roots’ School of Theatre - 2019 - Present

Why is a play called a play? What is an actor’s job in the rehearsal room? How do I move beyond emotion and into action? These are the questions that we explore every day at Roots’ School of Theatre, where I am an instructor and develop the non-musical theatre curriculum. We strive to create an uplifting and safe theatrical experience that promotes a love for the art form while teaching essential skills in both the rehearsal room and the traditional classroom. All year long I work with students grades 3-12 to help them answer that pesky question, “what’s my motivation?”

Private Lessons - Summer, 2017 - present

Since the Summer of 2017 I have taught private lessons in audition techniques and narrative monologues to high school and undergraduate students. My students have gone on to star in short-films, sign agents, and even attend Yale’s undergraduate drama program.

Druid Hills High school - 2017-2018

At Druid Hills High School in Atlanta, GA, I was integral to the founding of an extra-curricular drama program. Together with English faculty member, Marya Walker, I wrote and executed lesson plans in improv, ensemble building, spacial awareness, choreography, viewpoints, text-work, choral singing, theatrical devising, and a wide array of other significant acting skills. I also directed and stage-managed their spring musical. Now, the program has a sustainable relationship with nearby Emory University, where the college’s undergraduate students are given the opportunity to practice their teaching skills and the high school’s students are given the opportunity to learn from some of the university’s best students and professors.

Alliance theatre - Summer, 2017

During the summer of 2017, I was a teaching assistant at the Alliance Theatre. While there, I helped develop ensemble in each camp, and facilitated lesson plans in devising, playwriting, choral music, movement, and voice work. Each week, students were creating new and exciting plays for the small stage in an electric and collaborative nature. While there, I also acted as the lighting and sound designer for each camp.
